 Fraternity: Historical GAC

The Grand Arch Council is a bi-annual meeting of all the chapters of Phi Kappa Psi. Held in the late Summer the event features many opportunities to meet with other brothers and learn more about how the national organization functions.

Although the Texas Beta chapter has sent many delegates over the years only a very few have attended more than one GAC. In the case of brother Brian Carr he holds the record for GACs attended with 10. Related to his dedication to Phi Psi he was initiated into the Order of the SC at the Chicago GAC in 1996. Below are photos he has collected from various GAC events since 1978 when he attended his first at Kansas City.

1982 GAC Atlanta, Georgia

In 1982 Brian and Robert McNaughton drove from Lubbock to Atlanta, Georgia for the GAC, leaving damage along the way. Their portable BBQ smoker was a hit along the highway.

Even starting out the Texas Beta duo knew that trouble lay ahead.

Arriving in Atlanta they checked into the Hyatt with its classic revolving bar atop the hotel. Later two unidentified men were seen with their naked bodies pressed against the glass elevator tube leading to the bar.

Robert rested between leadership sessions.

1986 GAC Phoenix, Arizona

In 1986 the GAC was held in Arizona with Brian and colony members from Indiana Eta in attendance.

The drive through New Mexico to Arizona featured beautiful landscape. Here we see the Phi Psi telecommunications center used to communicate with Alpha Centari Alpha chapter.

1988 GAC New Orlean, Louisiana

At the 1988 GAC in New Orleans Brian enlists his wife to attend.

She immediately dumps Brian for another Brother with more of a party attitude. Here she pinches Brother Pat "Age is not an issue" Ebby.

An unnamed Brother rests between leadership meetings.

1998 GAC Phoenix, Arizona

Along the way to another GAC in Arizona in 1998 Brian stops by the Grand Canyon. "A hole in the ground is just an inverted mountain range" says the West Texas native.

Lots of fun at poolside at the Arizona GAC.

2000 GAC Memphis, Tennessee

Brother Byron Cain ignores the baseball game at the 2000 Memphis GAC.

Brother Dustin Nicholson takes a big bite at the 2000 GAC.

Being in his hometown Elvis stops by and tries to join up.

Brian and Order of the SC Brother David Evans smile for the camera.

The 2000 group mugs it up with Rick and Jay, members with Brian in the Order of the SC Posse.

Jerry and Florence Nelson brighten up the evening in Memphis.

Dustin and Ruben rest between leadership meetings.

Brother Shawn Collinsworth practices selective eye opening with his future lovely wife Ellen.

Long-time friend to Texas Beta Brother Steve O'Roake from Missouri Alpha stands in a stupor as he ponders a question.

The Texas Beta banner hangs high at the GAC meeting hall.

2002 GAC Pittsburgh, Penn

Brothers Nicholson, Magee, Justin (from Texas Epsilon) and Ruben sample some local fun at the 2002 GAC in Pittsburgh.

Valeri and Justin attempt to help a East Coast brother master the Texas two-step.

The Pittsburgh GAC was the largest ever held as we celebrated 150 years of Phi Psi.

Val smiles with Steve O'Roake's wife. She has attended four GACs and in 2002 they started a "women only" group to make fun of the "men's only" Order of the SC.

Val and big James Adams from Texas Beta (79') enjoy the street scene in Pittsburgh.

Val and the guys stand before what is obviously a hamburger stolen from Texas.

2004 GAC San Diego, California

The Boys are Back in San Diego for the 2004 GAC. Held at the U.S. Grant Hotel the trip included James Adams, Dustin Nicholson, John Packard, Brian Carr, David Jones, and Mike Magee.

It is getting tricky for Daddy Carr to watch over his daughter at these events.

The ugly Texans truly are bizzare!

The Phi Psi carrier is docked and ready to go cruising.

This boat was huge!

Do these look like people you can trust? Stu Rhodes on the left is the new national secretary.

Happy to be alive and a lasting Phi Psi!
