 Chapter: Cabo

Mexico is Great!

Cabo San Lucas, located on the southern tip of the Baja in Mexico, is home to Jerry Nelson (UCLA, '47) and his home serves as a wonderful vacation spot for brothers of Phi Psi. Since 1999 members of Texas Beta have been fortunate to enjoy his hospitality through an annual journal "South of the Border". Each year various groups of alumni travel down to enjoy the wonderful weather and hospitality of the Nelsons. If you are interested in the trip to Cabo  please complete the on-line form below. Your expression of interest is not a commitment...we just want to gauge if there is sufficient interest to set up yet another "Pirate Cruise". For questions please contact Brian Carr at bha@wiredbrush.com or (806) 795-3911.

Travel Information for our Cabo Trips

Brother Nelson's home in Cabo (the entire photo) jerryhouse.jpg (19020 bytes)

These vacations to Cabo are provided through the generous support of Jerry (UCLA, 47') and Florence Nelson. Brother Nelson is a strong supporter of Phi Kappa Psi and through his efforts Texas Beta has raised over $200,000 in the construction of a chapter house at Texas Tech University.

Posting from past Cabo trips

Below is a brief description of the SPAA retreat to the estate of Brother Jerry Nelson's estate in Cabo San Lucas. If you are interested in signing up for the retreat please complete the form at the bottom of this page.

Cabo San Lucas is located on the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula where the Gulf of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. The town was relatively isolated until the 1980s when the airport was built and time-share condos became popular. There are attractions for all age groups, beaches for the kids, shopping, and an active night life. The prices were very reasonable and the town "drag" features a wide variety of dining establishments and shops.

We are extending an invitation to alumni of Texas Beta and their guest to travel to Cabo and enjoy a hosted retreat at the estate of Brother Nelson. From the point that you arrive at the airport you will be a most special guest and we anticipate having many activities scheduled for your enjoyment including:

  • Sunning at the beaches of Cabo, including the Playa del Amore ("Lover's Beach) and our special beach club at "La Concha" where the waiters bring food and drink out to your beach cabana.
  • Fishing for billfish (marlin, sailfish, and swordfish) in chartered boats
  • A trip to Cabo Falso, an 1890 lighthouse, in a expedition of ATVs (all-terrain vehicles)
  • A trip to La Paz, just a short drive, to enjoy a day of shopping
  • A sea-borne dinner on a chartered boat
  • Evening adventures featuring the party at "El Squid Roe" and "The Gigglin' Marlin"
  • A cultural show and dinner at one of Cabo's premier resort hotels

Or you can just relax by one of the pools at the estate, pictured here (the whole picture)! jerryhouse.jpg (19020 bytes)

You can't beat the cost. Brother Nelson has agreed to host us at his estate at NO COST! I would estimate his bungalows to be priced around $1,500 a night. Each unit has a kitchen and central A/C as well as most have whirlpool baths and a pool.

You will be responsible for the cost of air fare to San Jose Cabo airport (runs $700 from Lubbock on American Airlines) as well as personal costs associated with shopping and your evening activities outside of those scheduled.
